Statement from the founder and chairman of SAR UK
“When we began as a small group of interested parties in 1982 we had little conception of how the society will grow and how much work we would have to do to provide a service for the ever-growing Afghan Community in the U.K. It is a credit to all concerned with the society that we have continued to develop as a model refugee community organization.
None of this would have been possible without the assistance of dedicated staff volunteers and committee members and my thanks go to all of them. In particular I would like to thank all our friends in other agencies who have been generous in their support of our organization. Especially valued for their support are our funders, The London Boroughs Grant Committee, London Borough of Ealing, Tudor Trust, Esmee Fairbairn Trust, Hilden Charitable Fund, City Parochial Foundation, London Trust, Freemasons Grand Charity and others. We hope that we will continue to repay the confidence placed in us by these organisations.
Through the efforts of SAR staff and members, the society has become widely respected within the voluntary sector so we have no reasons to think we will not continue to grow and prosper.”
